The Cabildo of Lanzarote, through the Area of Education and Culture, directed by Francisco Cabrera, has initiated the coordination procedures for the administrative, technical and financial process between institutions, to pay tribute in 2012 to the popular culture of Lanzarote, in the figure of the Parranda Marinera Los Buches.
According to Cabrera, "if in 2011 we wanted to pay tribute to the avant-garde culture, remembering the figure of Pancho Lasso and even reproducing one of his most emblematic sculptures, next year we want to recognize the trajectory of Los Buches, our historical reference of the oldest folkloric component. A key piece of our popular culture, a culture linked to the sea, and of our most playful and festive expressions." "In fact, the capital and Lanzarote carnivals would not be understood without this Parranda Marinera," adds the councilor.
For the moment, in a meeting held this Monday between the Island Councilor for Education and Culture, Francisco Cabrera, the councilor responsible for the Technical Office of the Arrecife City Council, Vicente Dorta, and various technicians from both areas, it was concluded that the tribute monument, which will represent two buches dancing, will be located in the Cuatro Esquinas area.
This location will also serve to launch the other aspect of the tribute, a didactic aspect that will be extended to all educational centers in the area. "It is important that the little ones know the origins of our traditions, of their history... It is important that they know how the society of the time was transformed when the carnival arrived and they began to distribute the famous buchazos," Cabrera points out. A historical fact that was also revealed by the French traveler René Vernau in 1880.
