The Lanzarote Biosphere Reserve Office, in collaboration with the Viento del Noreste Environmental Defense Association, will carry out a volunteer action to clean the natural-cultural habitat of El Jable on Saturday, May 22, in the municipality of Teguise.
The day, which will last from 09:30 to 12:30, also includes an informative talk on the natural and cultural values of the El Jable enclave and bird watching, which will take place before the cleaning in the so-called 'Project in a Can'.
The Councilor of the Biosphere Reserve, Ariagona González, highlights that this initiative promotes cooperation between public and private entities, with reference to the 'Junt@s Somos Biosfera' Volunteer Program, which seeks the involvement of citizens by planting a seed of community values.
She also highlights the importance of consolidating the participation of volunteers in actions aimed at raising awareness about the recovery of different enclaves on the Island, allowing the promotion of policies for the care of fauna and the environment, which enables the Lanzarote Biosphere Reserve to comply with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
The activity is open to the general public, until reaching a maximum of 20 participants, who will be divided into subgroups. The space in which the intervention will take place is integrated into the priority area for reproduction, feeding, dispersion and concentration of the threatened species of the Canary Islands avifauna Jable de Famara, with landscape protection.
In this sense, Ariagona González explains that among the objectives pursued with this initiative is also to inform about the environmental, agricultural and cultural importance of El Jable and raise awareness about the importance of recovering cultivation in the area, in addition to enhancing the peculiarities of the ecosystem, touring the habitat and observing its species.
