The Councilor of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Jorge Peñas, welcomed this Monday the first people hired through a new edition of the program "New Employment Opportunities" who, for 12 months, will carry out internships in different departments of the institution related to their qualifications.

Through this initiative, which seeks to "encourage the hiring of unemployed people to carry out work practices, preferably first-time employment, in order to improve their employability and facilitate their future insertion into the labor market, the island corporation will hire a total of 40 people this year", they point out from the Cabildo.

"Today we have the satisfaction of welcoming 28 of them, hoping that this experience will help them improve their professional skills, and in the coming dates the rest of the people who, in this edition, will be able to benefit from this Cabildo employment program will join", explained Jorge Peñas.

"Here they will be able to acquire all the necessary skills to face the labor market. Face it because we know that, currently, even though Lanzarote is a better place to live and work than a year ago, it is sometimes almost a battle to acquire a job", added the Employment Councilor of the Cabildo of Lanzarote.

Among the 28 people hired so far are a coordinator, three tutors, two social educators, an economist, seven administrative technicians, five lawyers, a person with a degree in Business Administration, two environmental technicians, a social worker, an equality promoter, two higher technicians in computer systems administration and two biologists.

The project "New Employment Opportunities" is co-financed by the European Social Fund Plus within the ESF+ Canary Islands 2021-2027 program. The subsidy provided by the Canarian Employment Service (SCE) amounts to 1,162,311.06 euros, while the contribution from the Cabildo of Lanzarote is 241,038.06.
