The course "Canarian wrestling and its physical principles: teaching and learning" addresses the different techniques of Canarian wrestling (feints, counters, etc.) using a methodology in which the physical principles (balance, center of mass, torque, etc.) that are latent behind each execution are addressed. In general, the course seeks to teach the fundamentals of this vernacular sport of the islands from a scientific and academic perspective.
The direction and teaching of the same will be carried out by Dr. Justo Roberto Pérez Cruz, professor of the Department of Fundamental and Experimental Physics, Electronics and Systems of the University of La Laguna (ULL). "Canarian wrestling and its physical principles: teaching and learning" is mainly aimed at students, and primary and secondary school teachers, athletes, sports monitors, and the general public interested.
This seminar, which will take place in the CICCA room in Arrecife, from March 26 to 30, is the second of the six university extension courses that the ULL will teach this year on the Island, under its academic endorsement and with the organization of the Cabildo of Lanzarote through its Education Service. It should be remembered that these six courses are added to the nine offered by the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, some of which have already begun.
The objective of this teaching activity is to develop a method of learning and teaching Canarian wrestling based on the physical principles that govern its implementation and understand how many of the principles of physics are exploited by man, often without knowing it, and that, on many occasions, the only conceptual barrier is the language used. The course proposes a series of simple experiments, many of them carried out with our own body, which allow us to see that many of the situations described can be found in various problems of daily life.
The registration period will last until March 23 or until places are filled. People interested in registering for this and other courses should contact the Universities department of the Education and Culture area of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, located in the Casa de los Arroyo, on Avenida Coll, 3 in Arrecife de Lanzarote.
