From Monday, September 8, BRICAN XVI personnel will carry out land patrols in different strategic points of Lanzarote. These tasks are aimed at reinforcing surveillance, deterring possible threats and guaranteeing the security of land spaces under national sovereignty on the island. Among the scheduled activities will be a Flag Raising ceremony on the island.

This activity is integrated into the set of Permanent Operations, one of the main contributions of the Armed Forces (FAS) to National Security in peacetime. These missions underscore the commitment of the FAS to the comprehensive defense of the territory and its ability to anticipate any eventuality that could compromise stability.

The deployment in Lanzarote not only allows for effective surveillance of the environment, but also facilitates a greater understanding of the terrain and the social reality of the island. In addition, it promotes the integration of the military into the local community and strengthens the bond between the Armed Forces and the citizens.

Lieutenant General Julio Salom Herrera, head of the Canary Islands Command of the Army, who serves as Commander of the Land Operational Command (CMOT), being responsible for planning these presence and surveillance operations not only in the Canary Islands, but also in Ceuta, Melilla and the Balearic Islands, maintaining constant coordination with the competent civil and military authorities
