The Batucada Villa Pipol paid tribute last Friday to Juana Manrique Cabrera and Juan González Hernández "for their carnival spirit", in an event that took place at the group's headquarters in Arrecife and was attended by about 100 people.
The group thus recognized "their years of dedication, their parodies and stagings, as well as their varied and original costumes" in the carnival party. A video with photographs showed the passage of both over the years through the Carnival.
Likewise, Juana Manrique and Juan González were named Honorary Members of the group. In their speeches, both recalled what Carnival was like years ago. The Batucada Villa Pipol, for its part, offered a performance to the honorees and attendees.
In previous years, the Batucada Villa Pipol has recognized the work of different representative "characters" of the Lanzarote carnival. Thus, in 2006 Juan Medina Guzmán, the Lanzarote Charlot, was recognized; in 2007, Don Domingo Brito Fajardo, for his costumes made with products from the field; in 2008, José García, Carmelo Callero, Gabriel Cabrera (deceased), Domingo Márquez and, posthumously, Juan Negrín Alayón. In 2009, Manuel Rodríguez Rodríguez and, in 2010, Narciso Fuentes Cabrera.
