The Department of Beaches of the Arrecife City Council has prohibited swimming again at El Reducto beach due to the presence of sewage. This bathing area, the main one in the capital of Lanzarote, had reopened on the morning of this Thursday after having been closed two days before due to the appearance of dirty water. This has been confirmed by the Security and Emergency Consortium of Lanzarote and sources from the Arrecife City Council to La Voz.
This new closure is decreed after re-analyzing the water quality of El Reducto. These analyses have once again yielded positive results in the presence of bacteria incompatible with bathing and have forced the City Council to decree the closure again.
For his part, the mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, has requested a meeting with the Councilor for Waste and Water of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Domingo Cejas, to clarify what happened in El Reducto.
As La Voz has reported on other occasions, along with El Reducto beach, which had to be closed to the public several times throughout last year due to the presence of fecal bacteria, there are two unauthorized wastewater discharge points for network overload situations. These two pipes are on the Baja del Camello promenade, which connects the Lanzarote Island Council with the beach. These points are managed by Canal Gestión and are owned by the Water Consortium.
