San Juan Day will be a holiday in Arrecife in 2019. This was announced by the Councilor for Festivities of the capital, David Duarte, who stated on Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero that this measure was already "approved in plenary".
"We had the wild card to use August 25, which next year is Sunday, and move that holiday to June 24, which falls on Monday, but only next year, due to the possibility of changing it", explained the mayor, who believes, however, that it would be necessary to "push in the Cabildo" and look through it at the possibility of "always having that holiday" replacing it with another.
David Duarte has also spoken about the party that the City Council has organized to welcome the summer on June 23, which will take place along the avenue, from the Cabildo to the José Ramírez Cerdá Park. A party that will extend from 12 noon to midnight and in which the night of San Juan will also be celebrated, with a bonfire "that will be made at the end of El Reducto beach, near Punta del Camello".
The day will also feature tapas for one euro and grilled pineapples and a stage will be set up in El Reducto where Los Guateques, Treintaytantos, Dj Maxi and Bourbon will perform, according to the poster that the City Council has already made public.
There will also be zumba, bowling championship and jolateros workshop and the little ones will have mats on the beach and a playroom in the parking lot of the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife. That day will also be celebrated the San Juan Swimming Crossing and an exhibition of old photographs of Arrecife will be installed on the avenue, as detailed by the mayor. "A very complete day," said David Duarte.
