The municipality of San Bartolomé has celebrated its big day this Wednesday, and has commemorated it with the traditional procession. At 12 o'clock the mass was officiated and, afterwards, the patron saint toured the streets of the town, accompanied by the Municipal Band of San Bartolomé, with firecrackers in honor of the saint. The night before, floats, fireworks and a lively verbena put the finishing touch to the festivities.
Both the religious function, which was presided over by the parish priest of Santa Brígida, Alejandro Santana González, and the procession, have had a large influx of neighbors and authorities. Among them was the mayoress of San Bartolomé, María Dolores Corujo, accompanied by various members of the Municipal Corporation and numerous authorities from other municipalities on the island, from the Cabildo of Lanzarote, from the Government and the Parliament of the Canary Islands, as well as the senator for Lanzarote and various military authorities.
To conclude the program of events of this edition, at 9:00 p.m., the Municipal Theater will host the performance by the theatrical company Actúa7, the old Raíces del pueblo, of the play "Night of Exorcism". With this, the final point will be put, until next year, to some successful patron saint festivities.
Floats, verbena and fireworks
On the eve of San Bartolomé, some of the highlights of this end of the festivities were experienced. Neighbors and visitors were taking their places along the streets to enjoy one of the most traditional events, the parade of floats, which always precedes the Big Day and in which neighbors, the City Council and municipal groups participate.
Floats and music from the hand of the batucadas Guaychara, Los Yaiseros and the Charanga Los Gruñones, filled the night with joy, color and fun while they were touring the central streets of the town, all very well decorated and full of public faithful to the festive event. The night concluded with the burning of fireworks. In addition, until the early hours of the morning there was a verbena, enlivened by the orchestras Rika Banda and Travesía.
The mayoress, María Dolores Corujo, has expressed her "gratitude to all the people who keep this tradition alive, make the floats, prepare their costumes with care, to batucadas, charanga and to all those who contributed to make the eve of San Bartolomé have that aftertaste of the festivities of always but with events for all audiences." The Consistory has highlighted that San Bartolomé concludes the patron saint festivities with "enormous success of participation".
