Residents of the island of La Graciosa denounced this Friday the closure to the passage of vehicles through Playa Lambra -an area located in the north- which, although it has not yet taken effect, "a sign has been discovered in the place that confirms it"

This was reported by the inhabitants, who explained that according to the information they have, "the General Directorate of the Coast and the Sea intends to cut off car traffic on the road because said road is within the public maritime-terrestrial domain".

However, the residents of the area do not understand that this decision is made by Costas, "and not by the Autonomous Body of National Parks, which is the one that has the power and management of the state property."

"The road does not generate environmental damage or incidents"

Although this issue had already been raised in 2020, when the arrangement of the roads was explained, the residents denounce that they have not been previously informed about this cut, "but that they have had to find out directly by seeing the prohibition sign placed".

In the same way, they say they do not understand "that a road that has been used for years is closed to traffic and that, for its conservation, has already been delimited, with the consequent expenditure of public money."

In that sense, the users have indicated that "it has been shown in recent months that the number of incidents by cars and bicycles has been significantly reduced, which means that people respect the delimitation".

Faced with the argument that the road can generate environmental damage, they have pointed out that the area is "perfectly bounded" and that, the fact of prohibiting the passage would only generate more problems "because if it is not used frequently it will end up covered by sand".

For all these reasons, the residents have asked the management of Costas to "reconsider its decision", since "to conserve a space like La Graciosa it is necessary to take into account the opinions of the people who live in it."
