León Tejera received a posthumous tribute this Sunday during the celebration of the XX Meeting of Senior Citizens organized by the Department of Social Services of the Arrecife City Council. This edition was attended by 600 people. The event began with welcome words from the mayoress of the Arrecife City Council, Eva de Anta, and the Councilor for Social Services, Victoria Sande. Both thanked those attending the organized meeting and had very emotional words for León Tejera. Tejera passed away in January of this 2017. This resident of Argana Baja, "stood out as a good and simple man, loved by all for his altruistic and silent work, without ever having been on the cover of any magazine, or headline of any news program, and yet he was worthy of it." León Tejera spent the last days of his life dedicated to his neighborhood and his neighbors, working and taking care of the garden of Las Maretas. Once the speeches were over, some relatives of León Tejera, his siblings, Olimpia and Salvador, the wife of the latter, Avelina de León, and his nephew Sergio Tejera, took the stage. Immediately afterwards, Avelina, a woman with a prodigious memory, dedicated an emotional and heartfelt poem to her brother-in-law León Tejera, and at the end, she received a warm and prolonged applause from the public. The recognition to León Tejera Tejera concluded with the delivery of a sculpture of the Puente de Las Bolas by the mayoress Eva de Anta and Victoria Sande, Councilor for Social Services.

From that moment on, the Parranda Raíces began the concert with very lively songs of different styles that the elderly also sang and applauded very enthusiastically. They were also presented with a delicious meal consisting of a rich paella, bread, wine, soft drinks or water and a varied dessert of select sweets. The duo formed by Norbe Cruz and José Domingo got all the seniors dancing, who enjoyed a lively evening.
