The Piracy Museum was fitted out as such in the fortress of Santa Bárbara 4 years ago, with the aim of showing the history of the pirate attacks that Lanzarote constantly suffered.

Part of that history was narrated today before the students of the IES of Teguise by the author of the publication "Pirates of Legends", María José Tabar, and the narration of Cristina Temprano, who on the occasion of the presentation of the book, which is already on sale in the Museum itself, told how the fortress located on the Guanapay Volcano, was for several centuries a watchtower from which they sighted the pirate dangers coming from the sea, and which served asrefuge for the population, dungeon for prisoners and even military dovecote.

The mayor of Teguise, Oswaldo Betancort, thanked the great work of the those responsible for the Museum and the attendance of the young students of La Villa, and invited all parents and teachers to visit "the historical legacy that these stone walls keep, which have become a great attraction museum about the history of piracy in the Canary Islands", declared Betancort.
