She was proclaimed Miss Gay XL in Lanzarote at a gala that took place at the beginning of July and on September 1 she will compete for the title of Miss Gay Las Palmas, in the same category, in an event that will be held in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Under the name of Jakelin Rochas, Osvaldo Cabrera will do his best to bring the crown to Lanzarote.

He faces this new contest with "enthusiasm", although he knows that "it will not be easy" to win the crown again. "I entered the Lanzarote contest impromptu. They warned me and I never thought of entering, because I had never done it. They proposed it to me, I tried my luck and I won. Then they told me that I was going to go to the Las Palmas contest and I started to prepare", he says.

Thus, the Miss Gay Las Palmas contest will take place in three galas, the final of which will be on September 1. "Here the winner of the province is chosen, in the XL and S categories", explains Cabrera. "In this contest there is a lot of competition. People from Lanzarote, Fuerteventura and Las Palmas compete", he points out. In this case, "about 30" compete, who will be seen parading by about "3,000 people".

"There it has a lot of pull, much more than in Lanzarote. In Las Palmas I don't know if there is more atmosphere, but these contests are very crowded. The Canary Islands is one of the places where these types of galas are most celebrated", says Cabrera, who affirms that in Lanzarote these gay beauty contests are beginning to be "normalized". "Before someone dressed as a woman came out, and people looked at him. Today, it is not like that. Now the Pride Day or these contests in Lanzarote are celebrated".

The transformation of Osvaldo Cabrera to Jakelin Rochas will have the help of a designer from Tenerife, who is preparing the work for him, which he has not yet seen, and also with the makeup work of Miss Gay International. "When they start putting makeup on you, you already feel different, your personality changes. When they start putting on the contact lenses, eyelashes... you feel different. You already look like a queen", he points out.

Jakelin Rochas will go on stage, first of all, dressed like the rest of the candidates. After that, there will be the swimsuit and the evening dress, both of which are scored. "The latter is usually the most important, because it is where they see the elegance and the tastes".

"We are representatives of the beauty of women"

He hopes to be calm, but confesses that he got "very nervous" at the Lanzarote gala. "In the end everything went very well and many people supported me. I did it as best as I could", he indicates. Asked if he believes that this type of contest has the support of society, Osvaldo Cabrera believes that "yes". "Yes, of course. These are contests that people usually like. People like to see the transformation of a man into a woman", he affirms. Cabrera defends the name of the contest and considers that those who participate are not "transvestites, but misses".

"I think a transvestite is someone who is hormonized or operated on. But the concept of miss for us is the beauty of women, which we have very present. I, in my normal life, am a man", he indicates, while clarifying that the candidates of the contest "transform because we are representatives of the beauty of women".

But, in addition, Cabrera will face another challenge, which will be to present himself to Reinas Gay Internacional, another contest that will take place in October in Tenerife. "I am also very excited", he indicates.
