The magic of César Manrique, the solidarity of Lanzarote, and the strength of families united by a common cause came together last Friday night at the 21st Charity Dinner of AFOL (Association of Oncohematological Families of Lanzarote), held at the emblematic Restaurante Casa-Museo del Campesino, a work with which the Lanzarote artist paid tribute to the tenacity and creativity of the island's farmers.

Under the imposing setting of the Monument to Fertility, more than 400 diners – the maximum capacity allowed – gathered for an evening marked by emotion, gratitude, and a commitment to improving healthcare on the island. The entire proceeds from the event, 6.00 euros, will be used to support the programs and services that A.F.O.L. offers to cancer patients and their families

Words with heart and vindication

The event began with the address by AFOL president Carmen Arrocha, visibly moved, who thanked everyone present for their attendance and collaboration. In her speech, she read out the association's manifesto, in which she once again highlighted the need to continue strengthening Public Healthcare and to urgently address the deficiencies affecting cancer patients in Lanzarote."We believe in dignified and effective Public Healthcare, but it seems they are more interested in outsourcing and supporting private healthcare. Let's not allow them to continue degrading it," stated the president, before demanding the creation of a multidisciplinary oncology team, more specialists, agility in diagnostic tests, a specialized emergency protocol, and a priority waiting list for cancer patients.Arrocha also insisted on the need for Canary Islands institutions to invest more in Health and Social Services, recalling that "it is not about giving senselessly to obtain votes, but about acting with coherence and commitment to the citizens."Gastronomy, music, and solidarity

After the opening remarks, attendees enjoyed an exquisite dinner served by the team from the Restaurante Casa-Museo del Campesino, whose staff received the most heartfelt ovation of the night for their professionalism, kindness, and dedication.

The atmosphere was filled with joy and rhythm with the performance of the musical duo "Borrón y Cuenta Nueva," made up of José and Norbe Cruz, father and son, who with their lively repertoire managed to get many diners to get up and dance, sharing moments of unity and celebration.

As is tradition, AFOL closed the evening with a raffle of generous gifts donated by supportive companies from Lanzarote and La Graciosa, a gesture that added a touch of excitement and gratitude to the night

A Hopeful Closing

With Carmen Arrocha's farewell words and the applause of the attendees, the final touch was put on a dinner where solidarity was once again the main ingredient. A night that not only raised funds, but also hope, strength, and commitment to continue supporting those who face the disease with courage and hope.
