"In Lanzarote, in 2013, the Equality and Attention to Women Center (CIAM) attended to 317 women, 92 alerts were given through the Emergency Device for Abused Women (DEMA), and coverage and assistance were given to 33 minors with the Specialized psychological care program for the sons and daughters of women victims of gender violence." These are the data that the Councilor for Social Welfare of the Cabildo, Marciano Acuña, has highlighted on the occasion of International Women's Day.

In a statement, the Cabildo of Lanzarote joins the Declaration of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP) on the occasion of 'March 8, which advocates "building an egalitarian society, without discrimination or prejudices related to gender, and free of violence against women."

In the case of Lanzarote, the Councilor for Social Welfare of the Institution and also responsible for the Center for Equality and Attention to Women (CIAM) recalled that "the Cabildo will continue working on several different aspects, of help and support to women, and dependent sons and daughters, victims of gender violence, offering legal and psychological advice through the CIAM, among other services, in some cases accommodation; and, on the other hand, working with preventive policies aimed, fundamentally, at youth, so that the new generations become aware of this problem and get involved in the fight and eradication of this social scourge."

FEMP Declaration

Similarly, with the adhesion to the Declaration of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces, the Cabildo also expresses its "will to continue promoting a change in gender relations to achieve a fair balance in roles, only feasible through co-responsibility between women and men."

Likewise, it supports the importance of the intervention of all social actors when it comes to "promoting and extending measures that promote the reconciliation between personal, work and family life, to advance towards a more balanced and fair society."
