Maneje recovers the garden "mistakenly removed"

The initiative is part of a group of residents from Arrecife and was supported by 'Arrecife Natura' and the Botanical Garden of the University of Oxford, who already made a first planting a year ago and now have had to repeat it

Replanting Manege's Garden

Almost twenty residents of Maneje replanted on December 26 a garden of native Canarian flora composed of a dragon tree, two cardones, three veroles and 22 sweet tabaibas in the public lot located in the neighborhood, between the streets Tiguanfaya, Iguazú and Princesa Artiaga.

This initiative, which started from a group of residents of Arrecife and had the collaboration of the deputy director and head of Science of the Botanical Garden of the University of Oxford, Chris Thorogood, www.arrecifenatura.com, www.jardinbotanicolanzarote.com and the City Councils of Parks and Gardens, and Environment', was carried out a year ago, but the City Council points out that the garden "was mistakenly removed by public workers."

Now, the participants in this environmental activity have requested the municipal collaboration to inform the workers of the City Council and the Cabildo of the new replanting, and to support the irrigation of the garden in the dry months with a tanker truck, as well as to help disseminate information about this garden to the citizens.

The promoters of this public garden with native plants ensure that this initiative reduces runoff and street flooding when it rains, and increases infiltration into the soil, apart from beautifying the city and bringing nature back to the neighborhoods.

For its part, the City Council points out that they have collaborated with this initiative through the City Councils of Environment, directed by Ángela Hernández, and Parks and Gardens, managed by David Toledo.
