The Agustín de la Hoz House of Culture hosted this Monday the presentation of the poster announcing the San Ginés 2018 festivities and the program of events, which includes a concert by the singer Macaco on the 25th. The event was attended by the mayor of Arrecife, Eva de Anta, the Councilor for Festivities, David Duarte, the author of the poster, Idafane Elvira, and Heraclio Niz as representative of Amigos de Portonao, who will be in charge of proclaiming the festivities.
The mayor opened the event recalling that "Arrecife enters the festivities on Friday and for two weeks will become the center of cultural, sports and leisure activity of the Island." "The work in the previous weeks is remarkable for all the council departments, a work of the technicians that is not seen but that we must thank; both the staff and the Government group feel gratified when we observe that the events are filled with public," added De Anta.
For his part, the Councilor for Festivities, David Duarte, pointed out that the program designed for this year "respects the traditional events but welcomes novelties." The festivities will be from August 10 to 25 and start this Friday with the proclamation by the Amigos de Portonao in the Charco de San Ginés.
Within the agenda of events, the City Council highlights that on August 12 the meeting of elders will be held with a tribute to Adelina Camejo and a concert by Fórmula V. In addition, on the 23rd will take place the III Meeting of Improvised Singing, on Saturday the 18th the Cachucha Festival and on the 25th the Macaco concert, followed by fireworks and Parrandas Night. In addition, on that big day of the festivities there will also be a mass in honor of San Ginés and the traditional procession through the streets of Arrecife.
A proclamation "full of tradition and emotion"
The spokesman of Amigos de Portonao, Heraclio Niz, thanked the invitation and said that it will be a proclamation "full of tradition and emotion, since the city of Arrecife has always respected traditions and already consolidated events."
Next, the mayor and the Councilor for Festivities uncovered the original and digitized poster that will represent the patron saint festivities together with its author, Idafane Elvira. "My inspiration has been the woman in the Charco de San Ginés, specifically I was inspired by one of the Festivales de Los Campesinos. It is called 'Hija del Charco' and is made in acrylic on canvas," he detailed himself.
Idafane Elvira, 30 years old, is a native of Guatiza and has a degree in Fine Arts from the University of La Laguna in Tenerife. He will soon take a master's degree in painting and design. He assures that "for years his greatest illusion" was to be able to win this contest, which he considers "opens many doors", and anticipates that his "next challenge" is to present himself to the Arrecife Carnival poster.
It should be remembered that the winner will receive a cash prize of 1100 euros and the informative and promotional dissemination of his work. The design will become the property of the Department of Festivities of the City Council of Arrecife.
