On Wednesday night, not only was the name of the six groups that access the final of the Arrecife Carnival Murgas Contest announced, but also the Design, Costumes and Fantasy awards were presented. Los Desahuciados won the first prize for best costume, being this the third consecutive year in which they achieve it. Inadaptadas and Ensalitrados shared the second and third prize, respectively. In addition, the Criticón award went to the murga Los Tabletuos.
"Oh my God, what a stress that I got dressed backwards", was the title of the fantasy that the 68 members of Los Desahuciados wore on Wednesday night. A design elaborated by Tino Morín and that won the first prize of Design, Fantasy and Costumes. From the moment they came on stage, they appeared in all the pools to win one of the three costume prizes and the design of Los Desahuciados had once again captivated the public.
It is an original costume. Los Desahuciados put their pants on as a shirt and their shirts as pants, hence the stress they had when dressing up, as the title of the fantasy points out. With last night's, it is the fourth time in its 17 years of history that Los Desahuciados have won the first prize for best costume. What's more, it is the third year that they have won the award consecutively.
The second prize for Design, Fantasy and Costumes was for Las Inadaptadas, who on Tuesday night wore the fantasy "One more clown, surely it won't be noticed" and which had been designed by the murga itself. On five occasions the members of Las Inadaptadas have won one of the three prizes for best costume. Already last year they won the second prize as in this edition. In 2006 they won the first prize in this category.
The third prize was for Los Ensalitrados, a murga that debuts in this Carnival and who wore the fantasy "Alien little clowns in search of a good dust, like a dream come true this Carnival...", designed by Aythami Ruiz.
The jury of Design, Fantasy and Costumes of the XXVI Arrecife Carnival Murgas Contest was composed on this occasion by Gabriela Mendieta (Queen of the 2014 Carnival), Ruth Quesada (photographer), Gemma García (sculptor), Ilenia Delgado (makeup artist) and Lupe Villalba (from the crafts workshop). During the three phases of the contest they were in charge of valuing and scoring each of the designs presented by the murgas.
