The Murga Afilarmónica Los Simplones has decided to momentarily leave the stage after twenty years of entertaining the people of Lanzarote during carnival with their compositions, charisma, and costumes.

"Yesterday afternoon we closed for the last time the place that has been our home for 20 years, we lived moments there that we will never forget," they announced on social media this past Saturday.

With this message, the murga has said goodbye to the venue where they have been rehearsing for two decades, one of the reasons why they have decided not to participate in the next Arrecife carnivals. "Our contract ended and now the City Council has given us a space, but this new venue is not suitable for us to rehearse because it is small," Mencey Curbelo, president of the murga, explained to La Voz.

And it is that the Philharmonic Orchestra currently has 57 members, which makes it impossible for them to fit in this space that they have already filled with costumes and other items from their old premises.

Now, the objective is to enable the premises ceded by the Arrecife City Council to transform it into the headquarters of Los Simplones, but not as a rehearsal space due to its reduced size.

For this and other reasons, they have decided to take a break and not participate in the upcoming Arrecife carnivals. However, they will continue as an association and will continue to carry out the different performances and annual commitments they make with entities, organizations or traditional festivities.
