The Ministry of Health has reported fourteen new positive cases of Covid in Lanzarote in the last day, although specifying that this is a "provisional" figure. Usually, the detailed data from the previous day is published every day from 2:30 p.m., but for weeks this update has not been done on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.
On those days, the Ministry is sending a statement informing only of the new cases (not of the discharges or other parameters), and stressing that these are provisional data. In addition, this Friday has advanced that press release and based on those provisional data, Lanzarote already has 1,528 accumulated cases, after adding these fourteen new ones.
As for the archipelago as a whole, the Ministry of Health provisionally registers 176 new cases of COVID-19 coronavirus. The total number of accumulated cases in the Canary Islands is 25,873. In the last 24 hours, no deaths have been reported or validated. However, it is likely that in the official data update in the coming days some deaths will correspond to this Thursday, December 24.
By islands, Tenerife adds 116 cases, so the total number of accumulated cases amounts to 12,585; Gran Canaria has 40 new cases and 10,246 accumulated. Fuerteventura has 985 accumulated cases, as it registers two new cases in the last hours. For its part, La Palma adds four new cases, so the accumulated cases are 274. La Gomera and El Hierro do not add any cases in the last 24 hours, keeping the accumulated cases at 181 and 74, respectively.
Health recommendations for Christmas gatherings
The Ministry makes a call to follow the recommendations of the General Directorate of Public Health of the SCS to maintain social and family gatherings as safely as possible and avoid the possibility of transmission of COVID-19.
The ideal is to celebrate meals outdoors or in well-ventilated areas in order to avoid enclosed spaces. It is recommended to maintain the meetings of this period with the same bubble group of contacts so as to limit the possibilities of transmission and that if one of the guests has symptoms not to attend the celebration. In this case, you have to isolate yourself and call the 900 112 061 line for coronavirus care.
The recommendations include maintaining distance at all times, including at the table during lunch or dinner, between non-cohabiting people and only removing the mask when eating and drinking, since the greatest risk occurs when people are unprotected, so it is important to avoid these exposures without a mask as much as possible.
Other recommendations are to greet each other without physical contact, therefore, without kisses or hugs; maintain separation at the table between non-cohabitants, for example including a free chair between non-cohabiting families; perform adequate hand hygiene, for which it may be useful to put hydroalcoholic gel on the table; avoid placing masks on the table; you can store it, for example, in a paper envelope; do not share utensils, or snack from the same plate and it is recommended to mark the glasses so that there is no possibility of confusion; the food should always be served by the same person so that the movement around the table is limited; toast without clinking glasses to avoid contact, and reduce the time after dinner to reduce the risk of transmission of the coronavirus.
It is also recommended that in the event that several family members are caregivers of a vulnerable person, they should not all coincide in the same celebration. If it were necessary to establish a quarantine, they would not all be affected.
Preventive measures for this Christmas
The Ministry of Health recalls that a series of restrictive measures are in place to curb the spread of coronavirus infections during the Christmas holidays.
Thus, for all the islands except Tenerife, a restriction on the movement of people has been established between 01.00 and 06.00 hours, except for Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, which is delayed until 01.30 hours.
For meetings, the number of 6 people may not be exceeded, except for the days 24, 25 and 31 December and 1 January, where the maximum is 10 people.
