The Ministry of Health of the Canary Islands Executive has reported this Monday to the Governing Council on the pharmaceutical expenditure report of the Canary Islands Health Service during the month of October. In total, 4,866,154 prescriptions were issued, with an average expenditure of 11.58 euros, which placed the pharmaceutical bill at 57,012,096.82 euros.
By Health Areas, Gran Canaria and Tenerife issued 86.21% of the total prescriptions, at a rate of 2,145,298 and 2,049,875, respectively. They are followed by those of Lanzarote, with 249,134; La Palma, with 189,729, Fuerteventura, with 163,478; La Gomera, with 46,571, and El Hierro, with 22,069.
Regarding the average expenditure per prescription, of 11.58 euros, it ranged between 11.04 euros, from the Fuerteventura Health Area, and 12.68 euros, from the La Gomera Health Area.
Communication to the Ministry of Health
The General State Administration establishes that, in order to standardize the information criteria of all the Autonomous Communities, the pharmaceutical expenditure that is communicated monthly to the Ministry of Health does not include the invoicing of diet therapy products or the amount resulting from the application of Decree-Law 1/2020, on urgent measures by which aid is regulated for the acquisition of medicines financed by the National Health System (SNS) to people who have the status of pensioners of Social Security and their beneficiaries, whose annual income is less than 18,000 euros.
According to these criteria, the amount of pharmaceutical expenditure of the SCS for the month of October that will be communicated to the Ministry amounts to 54,239,812.43 euros.
