The Canary Islands Government Council has agreed this Thursday to raise the alert level in Lanzarote, which was at level 2 and now moves to level 3 from this Friday. "It is the maximum level of restrictions," recalled the Minister of Health of the Canary Islands, Blas Trujillo, during the press conference in which he reported this agreement.

Among other things, this will mean advancing the curfew that was already in force to ten o'clock at night, as well as prohibiting any type of meeting outside the core of coexistence, both in public and private spaces. The only exception will be bars and restaurants, where a maximum of four people can meet on the terraces, whether they live together or not.

In addition, it also implies the 'closure' of the island, since the entry and exit of people will be restricted, except for "duly justified" trips.

"We believe that with the reinforced level 3 measures that we have in Tenerife, which would now pass to Lanzarote, we are going to be able to bend this trend. In fact, we have achieved it in Tenerife, which until recently had a similar trend," said the counselor.

In this regard, he recalled that before Christmas the Canary Islands Government established a framework of measures depending on each alert level, which were tightened last week, and which are those that will now be applied in Lanzarote.

As for the rest of the islands, Tenerife will continue for the moment at level 3, although its situation will be reviewed again on Saturday, that is, in two days. "It has had and has a positive evolution, but we must assess whether the trend is maintained," Trujillo said. And the opposite situation occurs with Gran Canaria, which will remain for now at level 2, but could rise in level after the extraordinary meeting called for Saturday. "If the evolution from now until Saturday goes in a line that clearly increases the negative trend, we would adopt the decision so that at zero hours on Monday it would move from level 2 to 3," he said.

As for La Gomera, it has been decided this Thursday to lower its alert level, going from 2 to 1, after the improvement in its data. On the contrary, Fuerteventura has risen from 1 to 2, given the negative evolution in recent days. For its part, both El Hierro and La Palma remain at level 1.

“When measures are adopted and alert levels are passed, it is not done in a capricious or subjective way. It is based on indicators established months ago at the national level,” the counselor wanted to emphasize in his appearance. Among these indicators, he recalled that there is the accumulated incidence per number of inhabitants in the last 7 and 14 days, the incidence in people over 65 years of age, the index of occupied beds on the floor and in the ICU, the level of positivity in the PCRs that are carried out and the traceability, which is the indicator that reflects the tracking capacity. And in the case of Lanzarote, all the incidence indicators have been appearing in the Health reports for days with a “very high” risk level and the positivity in “high risk”, almost doubling in all cases the Canary Islands average and even tripling it in one of the indicators.
