With a remarkable participation and a festive atmosphere from early afternoon, the town of Haría enjoyed one of the most participatory pilgrimages, filling the town's main streets with color, music and dances. An afternoon where the coexistence of the pilgrims was the predominant note of a festive day where more and more adults and young people are becoming aware when choosing traditional and typical clothing and thus gradually recover the traditions, legacies of our predecessors.
The pilgrimage began at 7:00 p.m., led by the Parranda Marinera de Buches, which for the first time wore its new sailor attire, receiving applause from the public as it passed, who enjoyed each of the groups on both sides of the streets. Very well decorated carts pulled by very well cared for donkeys under the constant supervision of their caretaker Onofre Martín.
Without a doubt, this has been one of the most participatory pilgrimages where traditional and festive music enlivened the entire route without forgetting the folkloric groups that gave their all with their colorful and elegant choreographies. Groups such as Malpaís de la Corona, Altaja and Guagime from Lanzarote, Guantejina from Tenerife. Parrandas such as Los Buches, El Golpito, Labradores, El Lagar de Teseguite, Pal Porrón, Escuela de Folclore de Haría and La Aldaba from Lanzarote, Bentahod from Tenerife and Palante from Gran Canaria.
The route ended in the square where the Patron Saint San Juan Bautista was waiting for them, accompanied by the parish priest of Haría, Norberto Medina, and the numerous public that gathered to enjoy the songs and dances that the groups offered to the saint. At the same time that the carts arrived, the men and women left their offerings of non-perishable products that will later be destined for the most vulnerable families.
The organization of the event, headed by the mayor Alfredo Villalba, the deputy mayor Evelia García and the team of councilors, managed to successfully meet all the objectives of the day. As a culmination, the traditional 'Baile del Romer'" was celebrated, which lasted until well into the early morning with festive music and an atmosphere full of joy.
During the dance, the election of the Romera and Romero was carried out, a task carried out by a jury in charge of assessing the clothing of both titles. This year the titles went to the young Omaira Callero de León and the young Abián Cabrera Cabrera, the mayor Alfredo Villalba and the Deputy Mayor Evelia García presented them with some artisan gifts.
