The streets around the Church of San Ginés, in the historic center of Arrecife, were once again transformed this Saturday, June 21, into a collective canvas full of color, tradition and creativity, thanks to the successful creation of the salt carpets on the occasion of the Corpus Christi festival.
Organized by the Department of Culture of the Arrecife City Council, under the coordination of Abigail González, the day brought together more than 300 people and fifteen local groups, who created twenty carpets along the streets Otilia Díaz, Real and Inspector Luis Martín, in the heart of the city's historic center.
Abigail González expresses her deep gratitude “to all the people and groups who, once again, have enthusiastically and committedly kept alive this tradition that unites us as a people and reinforces our identity.” She also extended her recognition to the Cabildo de Lanzarote “for its collaboration and continuous support to this celebration so significant for Arrecife.”
The surroundings of Plaza de Las Palmas, currently under renovation, were filled with life and art with one of the most representative popular manifestations of the capital of Lanzarote. “Each brushstroke of dyed salt is part of the living history of our city,” added González, underlining the importance of preserving this cultural heritage that combines ephemeral art and devotion.
