La Playa Chica in Puerto del Carmen hosted a diving baptism for visually impaired people this Sunday, organized by the Spanish Federation of Underwater Activities, in collaboration with ONCE.

Specifically, "six brave people" enjoyed the activity, each of them accompanied by an instructor and a diver specialized in adapted diving, according to the island coordinator of said federation, Manuel Borges. "For them it was quite an experience and for us much more," he said.

"They all came out delighted and excited because even with how little they could see, they were surprised by the amount of light and color there was under the sea," Borges said, who explained that the participants had between 60 and 89 percent disability.

To make the activity possible, there was collaboration from different diving clubs on the island such as the Lanzarote Underwater Activities Club, CAS Pastinaca, Telamón and Alisios Sub, as well as the Cabildo and the Tías City Council. On behalf of the Consistory, its deputy mayor, Amado Vizcaíno, even participated in the activity and recorded souvenir videos for the participants.
