Various organizations dependent on the Government of the Canary Islands, volunteers from La Graciosa, and members of the Maritime Service of the Civil Guard based in Corralejo met last Saturday, November 30 on the eighth island in order to carry out an exhaustive cleaning of the seabed of the port and coastal surroundings, according to the Association of Civil Guard Professionals.
According to the group, this framework for action is not new, as this initiative has been promoted annually by the Fisheries Inspection Service of the Government of the Canary Islands, as part of the activities carried out in the Marine Reserve of fishing interest of La Graciosa.
GMR actively participated in the cleaning, which is the public company that the Government of the Canary Islands has entrusted with the maintenance and conservation of this reserve; as well as other public administrations involved, such as the Environmental Surveillance Service, the Cabildo of Lanzarote and the Maritime Service of the Civil Guard. Emerlan and companies such as Biosfera Express and various diving centers also participated.
The Association of Civil Guard Professionals highlights the participation of children from the schools of La Graciosa who, through a drawing contest, put their signature on some t-shirts that were printed for the event.
From Civil Guard Professionals they consider that it is an event "worthy of significance" as it is of "high environmental importance" and have wanted to congratulate this type of initiative, as they consider that "it should be a reference to take". Likewise, they have congratulated the Maritime Service of the Civil Guard, which they say has accustomed them "to be champions in defense of facts related to the environment and conservation of the marine ecosystem of the Canary archipelago".
