The Democracy Society, on the occasion of the festivities in honor of San Pedro, has organized an extensive program of events for members and the general public, rescuing some of the activities which, over the years, have become a claim for all those who come to the centenary society.
Last Friday night they celebrated the traditional "Folkloric Encounter", and this year, on the occasion of the centenary of the birth of César Manrique, they dedicated it to the figure of the brilliant artist from Lanzarote. On this occasion, they had three cultural groups that, when the fatal outcome that cost César his life occurred, as a posthumous tribute, each of them dedicated a composition to him.
The La Peña Folkloric Group from San Bartolomé titled it "The Conejero Painter", the Guágaro Musical Group from Tías titled it "Dear César", and the Arrecife Choirs and Dances Group titled it Malagueña to César Manrique. The three participating groups also joined these compositions with others that encompass the traditional Canarian repertoire such as Isas, Folías, Seguidillas or Sorondongo.
The public enjoyed a night where Canarian music and dances were the protagonists. Orlando Suárez, president of the Democracy Society, was very grateful for the altruistic response of the participating groups who are always willing to collaborate with the Society he presides over.
The attending public rewarded each of the interventions of the participating groups with their applause on a night where the memory of the greatest of our artists, César Manrique, monopolized everything.
