The Association for Rural and Fisheries Development of Lanzarote (Aderlan) renewed its board of directors on October 15 and elected Ignacio Javier Romero as its new president. Along with Ignacio Javier Romero, the new board of directors includes Ángel Vázquez Álvarez, representing the Island Council of Lanzarote as vice president; Julián Gerardo Rodríguez Hernández, representing the Teguise City Council, as treasurer; Domingo Antonio Hernández Betancor, representing the San Ginés Fishermen's Association, as secretary; and Celestino José Socas Callero, representing the Haría City Council, as deputy secretary.

Valuation of rural areas

Aderlan recalls that it emerged in 1996 to promote the development of the island's rural environment and improve the quality of life of its inhabitants. Faced with the vision of rural areas as spaces for decongestion of the most populated areas, where agricultural and livestock activities are doomed to disappear due to the aging of their professionals, Aderlan proposes a firm commitment to the valuation of the rural areas of Lanzarote, which possess important natural and cultural values that can contribute to promoting a more balanced development of the island.

In this vision of the rural and fishing environment of Lanzarote as a space capable of developing sustainably, Aderlan has administered both the funds of the LEADER Initiative and those of other rural and fishing development programs financed through the funds of the European Union such as the EAFRD, EFF and EMFF, to manage dozens of projects in the field of education, agricultural, livestock and fisheries diversification, the environment, heritage, etc.

In some cases, these projects have been an exclusive initiative of Aderlan, while others have been carried out in collaboration with public and private entities, such as the Government of the Canary Islands, the Island Council or the City Councils of the island, among others. It has also produced various publications, has been present at fairs and exhibitions, etc.
