The director of the Arrecife Polyphonic Choir, Hernán Lorenzo Hormiga, will be in charge of announcing the festivities of the capital neighborhood of Titerroy in honor of San José Obrero. The events will begin on Monday, April 27 and end on May 3 and will be organized by the Arrecife Department of Celebrations, in collaboration with the neighborhood association of the neighborhood.
Lorenzo was born on Chile Street in Arrecife on September 20, 1953, where he resided until he was almost six years old. In 1958 he moved with his family to Titerroy, with the delivery of the second block of protected homes built as the beginning of what is now the neighborhood. Five of his eight siblings were born here, being the eldest of five boys and three girls.
According to the Titerroy Neighborhood Association, Hernán Lorenzo lived in the neighborhood until 1977, when he got married and moved to José Antonio Street, current Manolo Millares, where his residence is still located. However, they state that he has not stopped maintaining daily contact with Titerroy, since his parents and part of his family continued to live in the neighborhood and some of them still reside in the same house in Plaza Pio XII.
Civil servant of the Cabildo and with a life linked to music
Hernández Lorenzo began his initial studies at the old 'Escuela de Gregorito' and primary studies at the old Sanjurjo-Maneje group, where the health center is currently located. From there he went to the Arrecife Institute and later to the Santa Coloma Institute, to continue his university studies in Gran Canaria and also later in the city of La Laguna.
This student activity was always combined with music studies and practice as a professional musician in different groups on our island (Los Ache, Estrella del Sur, Voces Nuevas?) and with choral music initially with the recognized and beloved Braulio de León, being founding member of the San Ginés Polyphonic Choir and also of the Arrecife Polyphonic Choir, which he currently directs, with which he collaborates assiduously in musical events on our island.
In 1997, he gained access through free opposition to a career civil servant position in the Cabildo de Lanzarote, where he continues to work to this day and where he has held multiple jobs with different responsibilities within the organizational chart of this public institution and with several of the entities dependent on the first Island Corporation. He currently holds a degree in Business Science and a degree in Business Administration and Management, as well as a university Master's degree in Management and Administration of Public Companies from the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) and a degree in Law from the University of La Laguna (ULL).
Meeting with the Councilor for Celebrations
On the other hand, and after the Titerroy Neighborhood Association requested a week ago the dismissal of the Arrecife Councilor for Celebrations, Alfredo Mendoza, for giving them a "no-show" at a meeting called to organize the festivities, the neighborhood association states that the councilor contacted them and that he has "understood the discomfort".
According to him, Mendoza informed them that he is "fully working on the Carnival festivities" and in "the rest of the areas that he is delegated" and explained that that day he was "full" and that he "had entered a meeting thinking that he would arrive in time to meet with the neighborhood association and it was impossible for him".
In addition, the Titerroy Neighborhood Association states that the Councilor for Celebrations has already set a new date "to have a second meeting and close the entire program of events for the patron saint festivities in Honor of San José Obrero", which will take place on Tuesday, March 3, once the carnivals have passed.
Finally, the group encourages residents to participate in developing the program of events and requests that they send their ideas and suggestions via email [email protected]. The deadline for submitting proposals will be Friday, February 28.
