The Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands has reported 11 new outbreaks of coronavirus in Lanzarote. One of them affects migrants arriving in a small boat to the island where 13 positive cases were given.
The Ministry has reported that in the Archipelago 49 new outbreaks have been found "which add to the 47 outbreaks open for fifteen days plus 72 outbreaks that continue to be monitored although they are about to close as they have no new cases in recent weeks."
"Of the 49 new outbreaks, 27 correspond to Gran Canaria, 11 to Lanzarote, 1 to Fuerteventura, 7 to Tenerife, 2 to La Palma and 1 to El Hierro. There are 3 outbreaks of family origin that have had ramifications in different islands," he adds.
According to the Ministry, the 49 outbreaks affect a total of 393 positive cases and 77 people who are being monitored. The outbreaks are mostly of family origin and many of them with ramifications to the labor and social spheres. Of all of them, a total of 33 are of family origin, nine in the workplace, six in the social sphere and one affects migrants arriving by sea to Lanzarote, with 13 positive cases.
84% of the 49 outbreaks have less than 11 associated cases. The largest registered outbreak is of work origin with 31 cases, followed by a family one with 21 positives. The Ministry of Health states that "associated with the 49 outbreaks a total of 20 admissions and one death have been registered."
