Lanzarote has registered two new Covid outbreaks in the last week, one of them of a work-related nature, which occurred in a hotel and affects six people.
In the whole of the Canary Islands, 98 new outbreaks have been reported with 539 cases, of which 77 have been registered in Tenerife, 12 in Gran Canaria and seven in Fuerteventura, in addition to the two in Lanzarote. By area in which they occurred, 31 are social outbreaks, another 31 are family outbreaks, 25 are work-related, six educational, four in socially vulnerable groups and one sports-related.
In general, all outbreaks have fewer than 10 associated cases except for six outbreaks that exceed that figure: one work-related outbreak in Gran Canaria affecting 20 people reported in a food industry company, another work-related outbreak in Fuerteventura with 19 cases also in a food industry company, one work-related outbreak in Tenerife with 14 positives detected in a restaurant, one social outbreak in Tenerife with 14 people affected, one educational outbreak in Tenerife with 14 cases and one work-related outbreak in Gran Canaria reported in a shop with 11 associated cases.

Of the work-related outbreaks, six occurred in hotels and restaurants, all of them in Tenerife. They affect 14, six, six, four, three and three people. At this point, the Ministry of Health points out that in certain activities that take place in closed, poorly ventilated spaces where protection measures are relaxed for drinking and eating, there is a greater risk of contracting Covid-19.
Of the six educational outbreaks, all with family ramifications and corresponding to the island of Tenerife, have 14, nine, seven, seven, four and three associated cases.
As for the sports outbreak, it has been registered in a gym in Tenerife and has six people affected.
40 old outbreaks are also being monitored, some of which have grown in number of cases. Thus, the outbreak in a hostel in Tenerife now affects 87 people, a work-related outbreak reported in a construction company in Tenerife has 31 cases, a social outbreak, also in Tenerife, has 25 positives and an educational outbreak has 20 people affected in Tenerife.
Health Department warns that there are "breaches" when notifying close contacts
The Ministry of Health makes a call for citizen collaboration when the protocol for tracing close contacts is activated after a positive is confirmed, since "breaches have been detected when communicating contacts to control infections, which puts the health of others at risk".
In this regard, it is stated that there is evidence of 44 minors in Tenerife, probably linked to end-of-year parties, "who have hindered the tracing efforts by denying being related to these celebrations".
At this point, it is insisted that "the communication of these contacts is a health obligation, as it helps to control the spread of the pandemic and avoids contagion among people close to the positive case".
