Lanzarote and Ireland are closer. Until now, one weekly flight connected the Island with Dublin, but the Irish company Aer Lingus has tripled this service, and has added a new Lanzarote-Cork route, which will fly on Tuesdays and Saturdays. In total, one thousand seats for the Irish to get to know the Island of the Volcanoes, and for the people of Lanzarote to travel to Celtic lands. "Our objective was to open a market for tourists with a higher purchasing power, for another type of tourism and different countries", explained Miguel Ángel Leal, Tourism Councilor of the Cabildo of Lanzarote. "Until now, 95 percent of the seats on the Lanzarote-Dublin route were covered by Irish people", added Carlos Sánchez, commercial delegate of Aer Lingus in the Canary Islands, "but by increasing the seats, there will be more room for the people of Lanzarote".

This new route may mean an increase in European tourism in Lanzarote. For this, the promotion of the Island in Ireland is important, "although for the moment, no specific campaigns have been established", as Miguel Ángel Leal has indicated. "But it can be used to, for example, promote Lanzarote wines, now that we are with this issue".

For the moment, these routes are scheduled to continue until March 30. "From April to October it is possible that it will return to a weekly flight, although it is not yet confirmed", explained the commercial delegate of Aer Lingus.

Aer Lingus is the Irish national airline, therefore, it is not a low-cost company. However, competition in the market has forced them to attack with an aggressive level of offers. "We have established rates, the lowest is 55 euros per trip", explained Sánchez. "Adding the fees, for less than 200 euros you can travel to Ireland with a round trip ticket".
