As a trustee of the life of his town, Félix Domingo Tavío Santana, stood in front of the church of Uga to announce this Thursday the official start of the San Isidro Labrador Festivities, he did so stripped of papers, narrating his experiences in street language, of the square, experiences shared by many of his neighbors who were very attentive to the notes covered with ingenuity of the town crier, who with his unique account of episodes of the town and the link between Uga and Canarian wrestling, hooked from the beginning to locals and strangers, accomplices of his picaresque and good sense of humor.
At the end of the act, the general comment of "how good that the town crier is a neighbor who knows his town" joined the approval of the applause. Félix Migo was natural, full of spark and authenticity, he was very clear about it and he fulfilled it: "it is a pride to be the town crier of my town and I did it freely in feelings".
Félix Mingo was generous with the invitation extended by the Yaiza City Council, he kept almost nothing, he told from the hard beginnings of his family in the primary sector, a fact that is not alien to many families in Uga who earned and continue to earn their livelihood in agriculture and livestock, to anecdotes of the personal sphere, stories of parties, his participation in the founding of the Unión Sur Yaiza Joaquín Rodríguez 'Pollo de Uga' Wrestling Club and funny stories such as the nickname of 'El binter', which he earned in the world of Canarian wrestling: "they called me that because they almost always sent me flying".
The town crier was a wrestler, commander and director of the Club, he is passionate about Canarian wrestling and has always defended the importance of the native sport in the culture and tradition of Yaiza, Lanzarote and the Canary Islands. Félix Mingo Tavío was one of the great promoters for Uga to already have a sculpture in homage to Joaquín Rodríguez Cabrera 'Pollo de Uga', a work discovered this same day after the town crier's act, also in a very special year, as the mayor, Óscar Noda, recalled, "because this 2025 marks 130 years since the birth of Joaquín Rodríguez and 35 years since the founding of the Club that bears his name, two anniversaries that could not go unnoticed".
The Councilor for Festivities of Yaiza, Daniel Medina, said that "our town crier not only represents the affection for Uga, but also the strength and nobility of our Canarian wrestling, a symbol of the Canarian soul and our commitment to traditions." Félix Mingo recalled that project of terrero or multipurpose space that was going to be built in the now famous hoyo de Uga: "back then, they took out the stones and who knows where they are now, in any case, we are left with a hole but without a terrero. Hopefully the youngest can see the realization of this project someday".
The mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, valued "the narrative force of the proclamation, its content full of experiences lived in the first person and the naturalness of a man very loved by everyone."
