The former president of Orientación Marítima, Juan Domínguez Reyes, died this Tuesday, February 16, at the age of 82, due to Covid.
A man dedicated to his family, sports and associations and son of Juan Domínguez Barreto, a well-known guard of the Plaza de La Recova in Arrecife, began as a football player, which led him in 1962 to occupy the presidency of Orientación Marítima, a position he held until 1966.
After his time as president of Orientación Marítima, he served as a referee in different categories of Lanzarote football, eventually becoming a delegate of the Lanzarote Referees Association, which was based in a house he owned. Anecdotally, he was part of the refereeing trio that inaugurated the first artificial turf at the Lanzarote Sports City.
After this time he dedicated time to amateur radio, where he obtained hundreds of diplomas and trophies, assuming the presidency of the Lanzarote Radio Amateurs Union, and contributing to the promotion of the island with the San Ginés Festivities Radio Amateurs Contest, forming part of the Arrecife festivities.
Years later, he dedicated his time to one of his lifelong passions, ornithology, contributing to the breeding and preservation of the Timbrado Song Canary bird, becoming a member and president of the El Rubicón Ornithological Association and also of the Puente de Las Bolas Timbrado Ornithological Cultural and Sports Association. He dedicated his last years of life to his family and birds.
