A photograph of several young people in the late 80s celebrating the festivities in Caleta de Famara served for the Teguise City Council to decide to gather them and offer them to be the heralds of the 2012 festivities. Enrique Pérez Tavío, as spokesperson, together with seven other friends kicked off the festivities this Sunday.

All of them had been representatives of a festival committee in the late 80s. Enrique Pérez Tavío recalled the festivals of yesteryear and spoke of the evolution they have had over the years. "From being town festivals with a chocolate party and three small events, to today, when Caleta de Famara receives thousands of people," explains Councilor Daniel Morales.

The proclamation began at 9:00 p.m., just after Memoria Digital projected unpublished photographs of the town and three-minute videos recorded by a German in 1974. "People liked it a lot, because some people recognized themselves in the photos and it's always nice to wink at the past," says the mayor.

Furthermore, the City Council is "quite surprised" with the participation that the different events of the Caleta de Famara festivities are having. "The town is fuller than ever. Yesterday (for Sunday) the festivities kicked off with three events and all three were full," says Daniel Morales, who however is concerned about "the avalanche of people that may arrive on the weekend."
