A student from IES Playa Honda has won the first poster contest against gender violence in Lanzarote, aimed at secondary school students. The objective of the call was to promote youth leadership against this social scourge and raise awareness about the problem from the Department of Social Welfare of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, through the Center for Equality and Attention to Women (CIAM).

The jury, made up of Social Welfare technicians, understood that the poster created by Emilio José Fuentes García, from IES Playa Honda, deserved to be the winning design of the contest, from "an artistic, message, advertising and creative point of view". The poster will be used next year by the Cabildo of Lanzarote to announce the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, which is celebrated every year on November 25.

The award-winning author received from the hands of the Minister of Social Welfare of the Cabildo, Marciano Acuña, and the Director of Public Health of the Government of the Canary Islands, José Díaz Flores, a gift valued at about 200 euros, consisting of an Apple Ipod Nano of 16Gb and some IBUn Azul headphones.

Second and third prize

The second and third prize of this contest went to Shakira Paullette Carpio Zambrano, from IES Playa Honda, and Christian Camilo Hernández Castaño, from CEO Argana, respectively. Both also received a gift from the Cabildo of Lanzarote.

A total of 32 works were submitted to this contest, of which 31 were admitted, from the secondary education centers IES Zonzamas, IES Tinajo, IES Salinas, CEO Argana, IES Playa Honda and IES Blas Cabrera. The posters presented to this contest will be exhibited during this week in the dependencies of the Cabildo of Lanzarote.
