The Varadero square, in Puerto del Carmen, will once again become the nerve center of island enogastronomy, with the celebration of the Tapas Fair, on the 27th and 28th of this month. This year the third edition is celebrated, within the framework of the International Tapas Day, which will be held in different cities of the Canary Islands and the national scene.

This showcase of local products is organized under the tourist product, the brand and quality guarantee of "Saborea Lanzarote" by the Cabildo, the Tías City Council and the Regulatory Council of the Lanzarote Designation of Origin.

Up to eleven restaurants, six wineries with DO Vinos de Lanzarote and two sweet cuisine establishments, registered so far, will offer tapas to the thousands of visitors, who are expected to gather during that weekend at the Fair.

The Lanzarote Cocina group, made up of renowned chefs from the island, will participate as usual in these fairs, offering their culinary creations, through the so-called "miniature cuisine". At the same time, the Tías City Council will celebrate the traditional "El Varadero" Market, thus completing the program of this festival that welcomes the tourist center of Puerto del Carmen for the third year.

To present the program and the novelties that have been incorporated this year to the Tapas Fair, the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Pedro San Ginés, together with the mayor of the host municipality, Francisco Hernández, announced some of the details of the same. The presentation was also attended by chef Luis León, member of the Lanzarote Cocina group, and Jerónimo Padrón, president of the Tinguanfaya Association.

Also attending were the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Economic Promotion, Francisco Fabelo, organizer of this event; the Minister of Social Welfare, Marciano Acuña; the Councilor for Tourism of the Tías City Council, Nerea Santanta; and the representative of the Regulatory Council, Nereida Pérez, together with other members of the aforementioned groups.

Restaurateurs of Tías

San Ginés highlighted that in this edition most of the restaurateurs who will participate in the Fair belong to this same municipality, among which are establishments such as the Cofradía itself that hosted the presentation of the event. In this regard, the first mayor of Tías thanked the participation and the effort that the restaurateurs of his municipality are going to make that weekend, who have opted to revitalize this tourist center by promoting the quality products of the island at the same time.

In this meeting, La Tabernita del Charco, La Taberna de Nino, Ampate Gourmet, Restaurante La Cofradía de La Tiñosa, El Cangrejo Rojo, Sal y Pimienta and Restaurante La Lonja will offer their tastings and tapas. The Italian Ice Cream Parlor Ico, the La Montagne Pastry Shop, the El Faro Cheese Factory and the Helathlon Ice Cream Parlor will also participate. The La Geria, Reymar, La Grieta and Guiguan wineries will offer their wines.

The president also explained that non-local products, such as drinks, soft drinks or water, will be issued through 4 stands dedicated exclusively to this, which will be managed by initiative of the two rotary clubs on the island, in collaboration with the Disgrup Association of the Disabled and the Tinguanfaya group, whose funds will be destined to this solidarity cause.

"At this fair, once again, we will try to value Lanzarote products, also recovering the tradition of the Canarian enyesque and that this increasingly demanded format of the tapa serves as a tourist attraction for our local products," said Pedro San Ginés.

Program

The opening of the Fair will take place at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 27 with the inauguration of the "El Varadero" Market. At 7:00 p.m., the Lanzarote Cocina group will offer the first Showcooking with a tapas bar "to learn how to surprise our guests at home", according to the Cabildo.

As a novelty, this year the Lanzarote Bartenders Association also wanted to join the Fair with the showcoctel "Cocktail making and wine", which they will offer at 8:00 p.m.

On the same Saturday 27th, at 9:30 p.m., the Tio Matt group will liven up the Fair, which will cover the best songs of the seventies and eighties. On Saturday the fair will close at 11:00 p.m.

On Sunday, September 28, the doors of the Fair and the market will be reopened at 11:00 a.m. At 12:00 and 1:00 p.m., it will continue with a new showcooking and a showcoctel, respectively, by Lanzarote Cocina and the Lanzarote Bartenders Association, to finish at 2:00 p.m. with the concert by the well-known group Treintaytantos.
