The Ministry of Education, Vocational Training, Physical Activity and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands, led by Poli Suárez, has launched this Monday 82 new places for students in the first cycle of Early Childhood Education, distributed in five new classrooms in four educational centers on the islands of Gran Canaria and Lanzarote.
Specifically, the Claudio de la Torre Infant and Primary Education Center (CEIP), in the Gran Canarian municipality of Ingenio, will have two classrooms: one with 18 places, for students aged 2 to 3 years, and a second, mixed (1 to 3 years), with another 14. Also in Gran Canaria, the CEIPs Virgen del Carmen, in La Aldea de San Nicolás, and Estrella Barreiro Moreno, in Arucas, are opening two other classrooms, with 18 (2 to 3 years) and 14 (mixed) places, respectively. The 18 remaining places will be located in the 2 to 3 year old classroom that is being launched at the CEIP Yaiza, in the Lanzarote municipality of the same name.
With these additions, the total number of places in the first cycle of Early Childhood Education put into operation in the Canary Islands amounts to 2,152, of which 935 have been opened during the current academic year 2024/25. It is expected that another 54 places, currently in the final phase of execution, will be added to this figure soon. In addition, another 49 places have already been completed, distributed in three classrooms, which are expected to be operational at the beginning of the next academic year.
In total, the number of places completed during this academic year would reach 1,038. These are in addition to the 1,217 places enabled in the previous two academic years, of which 597 were launched in the 2022/23 academic year and another 620 in 2023/24, the latter already under the management of the current government team.

In parallel, the Ministry has published the tender for the contracting file to enable another three classrooms for the next academic year in the CEIP María Rosa Alonso (Tacoronte, Tenerife), Los Quintana (Gáldar, Gran Canaria) and Los Canarios (Fuencaliente, La Palma). In the case of the first two, each will offer 18 places for students aged two to three years and the second, of mixed type, will offer another 14 for one to three years.
