Drag Mandrágora by Ramón Santana triumphed at the Drag Queen Gala that was held this Sunday night at the Fairgrounds. She came on stage behind a black cloth and performed a carefree number, with marked movements while shedding her clothes. The deputy mayor and Councilor for Urban Planning of the Arrecife City Council, Antonio Hernández, presented him with the award. In addition to the 1,200 euros he won, he will also receive a grant for the costumes with which he will participate in the Drag Gala of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria next year.
The show presented by drag Kimba Ébola and Manuel Llanes was entertaining and colorful. The "queens" paraded with their fantasies and moved to the rhythm of the music performing short numbers. The gala was opened by the Gran Canaria ballet Collage. "Las Nancy Rubias" provided the musical note, while the jury deliberated the verdict. The conejero ballet "Liberty Dance" also performed at the gala.
Regarding the other two winners, the 11 members of the jury determined that the first finalist was Drag Quetzal, Yeray de León Rodríguez, who was presented with the award by the Councilor for Festivities Miguel Ángel Ferrer. Finally, the second finalist was Drag Noa, Norma Ruiz. This was the first time that a woman had participated in the gala. She was presented with the trophy by the Councilor for Education and Housing of the City Council of the capital, María Dolores Rodríguez, and Antonio Machín, Councilor for Cleaning, imposed the sash.
The president of the "Friends of José Vélez" Collective, Ismael Montero, Maruski, who participated in the reality show Gran Hermano, and the Queen of the 2008 Carnival, Chintia Rodríguez, were some of the members of the jury.
