The award-winning classical guitarist and writer Domingo Corujo Tejera will be in charge this year of raising the curtain of the San Marcial de Rubicón Festivities with his proclamation. It will be this Friday, July 1, at 8:30 p.m., in the church of Femés. Together with the outstanding artist from Lanzarote, his brother, the folklorist Antonio Corujo, and Toñín Corujo Quartet will participate, so the opening ceremony of celebrations in honor of the patron saint of Lanzarote and the Canary Islands promises a rich mix of history, music and verses.

Domingo Corujo created the 'Corujo Tail Guitar' after twenty years of research in the field of sounds. With this instrument he has given recitals in different countries of America, Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Literature is a facet that combines perfectly with music. He has published 'A man, an island, a world', based on the work of 'El Salinero', Víctor Fernández Gopar; the novel 'Behind the Big House' and several books of poems.

The Yaiza City Council has invited citizens to attend the welcome ceremony of the festivities and the entire program scheduled between July 1 and 8. On Saturday the Transajaches sports event will take place, with a subsequent rock concert and the tasting of cheeses and wines from the municipality, on Sunday there will be a performance by the El Pavón Musical Group and the El Rosario de Fuerteventura mariachi band. For the Big Day, Thursday, July 7, Femés has reserved for its neighbors the great Meeting of Soloists, with the performance of the Janubio Band and the concert by Olga Cerpa & Mestisay 'Estación Lisboa'.
