The Town Hall square in Tías experienced a special day this Thursday with a Christmas lights switch-on party, which filled the streets and the most emblematic corners of the municipality. The Christmas lighting, also seen as an essential tool to boost the commercial fabric, was presented together with various activities marked by a light rain.
The municipal authorities gave way to the switching on of the lights as an official symbol of the start of the festivities. The lights provide, as in recent years, significant energy savings thanks to LED technology and, on this occasion, thanks to the automatic switching off of Christmas lighting in municipal buildings from 02:00 in the morning to save on consumption and pollution.
'A different Christmas in the shops of Tías' opened the way this Thursday afternoon to the celebration of Christmas and the Three Wise Men with children's workshops for the elaboration of Christmas decorative elements taught from 5 p.m. with the participation of children from the municipality. These workshops were promoted by the Department of Youth led by Christopher Notario.
During the afternoon, the prizes of the Black Week campaign were also awarded to encourage consumption in local shops and the awards of the first 'Photograph our municipality' contest, organised by the Department of Commerce managed by Kalinda Pérez. The event was attended by the Councillor for Commerce of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Carmen Guadalupe, a collaborating entity of the Black Week.
The mayor, José Juan Cruz, and the councillors of the governing group presented the awards of the photographic contest to Elsa Molina González (@elsa_litre), first prize with the work 'Woman with hat'; Pedro Mesa García (@Ipedrakos), second prize with the photograph 'Red mountain' and Ricardo González González (@ricarglezglez), third prize with his 'Golden sunset'. The lucky winners received gift vouchers of €700, €500 and €300 to be exchanged in the municipality.
The winners in the Black Week Tías 2022 commercial campaign with 6 gift vouchers totalling €500 in prizes were María Yolanda Mateo Álvarez: €200 voucher and customer of Anmy Rodríguez, Alexis Delgado Rivera: €100 voucher and customer of Casa Juan Ramón Conil, Joanne Mary Smith: €50 voucher and customer of Óptica Tías, María Nicolas García Sosa: €50 voucher and customer of Joyería Melvi-e, Danny Zambrano Zambrano: €50 voucher and customer of Herbolario Ikigai and María Francisca Fernández Reyes: €50 voucher and customer of Herbolario Ikagai.
"Congratulations to the winners and thank you very much to all the participants in the campaign, it has been a success in participation and, above all, for the support shown to local commerce in the municipality," said Kalinda Pérez.
Due to the rain, the performances of the Municipal School of Music and the Los Labradores band had to be cancelled, the latter included in the Isla Navidad festival sponsored by the Department of Culture of the Cabildo of Lanzarote. The City Council thanked the members of both groups for their presence and willingness to participate in the Christmas and Reyes festivities.
