CC.OO demands the reinstatement of a colleague who was fired for revealing a company's occupational risk report

At the same time and on all the islands of the Archipelago, the Canary Islands Federation of Commerce, Hospitality and Tourism of CC.OO. held a press conference to denounce the unfair dismissal of an employee of the Iberostar hotel chain. The reason according to the company is that he had made public a report on the occupational hazards of the Hotel where the working conditions of the staff were revealed. For the company, the report contains private data that cannot be published, however for the unionists it is legitimate to make them known, so they have already announced that they will carry out rallies and protests from this Friday.

The Federation considers that the dismissal "violates the rights of trade unionists" and that "it is an attack against trade union freedom and freedom of expression", since the employee is the general secretary of the CC.OO. trade union section in Iberostar Canarias. Rafael Díaz González, secretary of the Hotel Federation of CC.OO. Lanzarote also has assured that on Wednesday afternoon, the Iberostar chain contacted the dismissed employee and offered him 300,000 euros to stop the conflict. According to Rafael Díaz, the offer is due to "the impact that the union struggle against this company is going to have", because he has already stated that they intend to publicize the fact internationally in order to prevent any other company from taking reprisals against a worker for a similar event.

On December 7th, the lawsuit for protection due to violation of the Constitutional Right of trade union freedom was filed, which will be expanded together with the lawsuit for nullity of the dismissal in which, apart from the immediate reinstatement, compensation of 60,000 euros will be requested. Apart from these actions, they will undertake mobilizations. The first will be this Friday from ten to eight in the afternoon in all Iberostar hotels in the Canary Islands.
