The Arrecife City Council has decided to close the sports facilities and suspend the activities planned for this Sunday, given the alert situation declared by the Lanzarote Security and Emergency Consortium.
From 5:00 in the morning, a subtropical storm is expected in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura that will enter through the south and west of the island and could leave weak to moderate and persistent rain, with probable locally strong showers and occasional storms. The rest of the archipelago remains on pre-alert.
Due to this weather situation, the capital's consistory has decided to keep the municipal sports facilities closed, as well as suspend any activity planned as a precaution. Therefore, the sports day that was expected to be held tomorrow will be postponed until further notice.
The mayoress of Arrecife, Ástrid Pérez, has pointed out that "given the weather forecasts and the declarations of yellow and orange alert in the Canary Islands, due to this storm, this preventive closure has been decreed for the safety of all".
"Given tomorrow's forecast, we have decided to close all the facilities. The rain could leave complications so we have taken this decision as a precaution," said Roy González, Councilor for Sports of the Arrecife City Council.
