Blue Flag

Lanzarote has revalidated seven of the blue flags it had on its beaches, but has lost one in this 2021 edition: the one on El Jablillo beach.

Teguise has renewed the award on Las Cucharas Beach, but has failed to maintain the one it had in El Jablillo, which it obtained for the first time in 2017.

As for Arrecife, it maintains its blue flag in El Reducto, while Tías has managed to revalidate this award on its four beaches: Playa Grande, Matagorda, Pila de la Barrilla and Pocillos. The other flag that remains is that of the small beach of Playa Blanca.

In addition to the blue flags on the beaches, is added the one obtained in the ports category by Marina Puerto Calero which, one more year, has achieved this recognition.

However, the promenade between Puerto Calero and Puerto del Carmen, which in the last two editions achieved the distinction of blue trail, has not revalidated it.

A total of 64 awards in the Canary Islands

In the Canary Islands as a whole, there are 64 Blue Flag awards that have been obtained this year, of which 59 correspond to beaches and five to marinas. In the Canary Islands, this initiative is managed in collaboration with the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands, through the General Directorate of Public Health of the Canary Islands Health Service.

Blue Flag is an annual award and an environmental quality certification system developed by the FEE (Foundation for Environmental Education). In Spain, this initiative is coordinated by the Association for Environmental Education and Consumer (ADEAC).

It distinguishes those beaches and marinas that meet the criteria of excellence in the quality of bathing water, comply with environmental regulations, and have adequate health and safety infrastructure to ensure the health and safety of users.
