Eduardo Lasso, accompanied by the deputy mayor of the Arrecife City Council,
Pedro de Armas, and the painter Rufina Santana, presented this
Friday the poster announcing the 2011 Carnival of Arrecife, which is
dedicated to the world of opera, an allegory of the capital's carnival
during this year, which will start on February 25, and which will
will last until March 9.
The presentation took place in the Assembly Hall of the Municipal Archive of
Arrecife and, during the same, the author of the poster, the renowned painter

adapted to modernity".
For his part, the Councilor for Festivities, Eduardo Lasso, who recalled in his
first words to the recently deceased, Domingo Brito, "a great
carnival-goer who will always be with us", explained that the decision
that Rufina Santana was in charge of making the poster announcing
the carnivals of 2011 had been "a personal commitment and that of the team that
accompanies me in the development of these parties".
The capital city councilor added, in addition, that the author had chosen "a
recognized and pioneering drag queen of the Island, who acts as the protagonist
of the poster announcing this mass staging, of the great
work in which we will all be extras, characters and participants, and
Arrecife its stage".
Lasso left other details of the Arrecife Carnival for future meetings
Arrecife 2011 "because today is the day of the poster", although he advanced that in
the parties "the murga Los Tabletuos will be officially proclaimed, as
Afilarmónica".
The mayor of Arrecife, Cándido Reguera, encouraged, finally, the population
to participate massively in the next carnival celebrations, "since this way
Arrecife and its economy are revitalized". Reguera, who congratulated the author
of the poster for his creativity, announced his participation in the next
carnivals, and said that he was already thinking about his possible costume. In his
judgment, the allegory of this year, the world of opera, "is going to give us a lot
game to all".
