Last Saturday we experienced a Solidarity Hiking at sunset, with spectacular light. The nearly 300 participants donated a large quantity of non-perishable food and personal hygiene products, destined for the users of the Flora Acoge Foundation.
This initiative, promoted by the San Bartolomé City Council and Senderismo Lanzarote, resumes the event that began in 2014 with the family race (Islote familiar trail) and that has been rescued this year after the stop caused by the pandemic.
Now in this format, under the name Marcha Solidaria El Islote, the participants contributed their donations to the Flora Acoge Foundation and with the contribution of the president María Dolores Villalba, who personally thanked all the participants. These words were also joined by the Councilor for Sports of the San Bartolomé City Council, Alexis Hernández, the mayor Isidro Pérez and Ignacio Romero of Senderismo Lanzarote for the high participation in healthy events like this for charitable purposes.
The hikers traveled a total of six kilometers enjoying a unique landscape beauty on the island and in the municipality of San Bartolomé, as well as a simple route through the areas of El Islote, El Sobaco, Los Bermejos, El Lajial and Juan Bello, a path that combines vineyards and chabocos of the Protected Landscape of La Geria, volcanic flows, sandbanks, areas near cones and volcanic tubes. Upon returning to the Socio-Cultural Center, hikers were able to enjoy traditional and popular Canarian music.
