Antonio Acosta Fernández, known as 'El Sapo', dies

Linked to the Puerto del Carmen Football Club and known for running a stall at the festivals of the coastal town

Juan Antonio Acosta Fernández, known as Toño 'El Sapo' passed away this past Sunday, April 27 in Tías.

Linked to football throughout his life, Juan Antonio Acosta was one of the first members of the Fútbol Club Puerto del Carmen Lanzarote and also became its president. In addition, he was also known for managing a stall at the festivals of the coastal town.

The team has expressed its condolences on behalf of the Board of Directors, the players and all the fans. "We join in their pain at this difficult time and send them all our strength and support. Juan Antonio will always be remembered with great affection and respect by all of us. Rest in peace, your soul is in good hands," he stressed in a statement.

Toño 'El Sapo' attended the 2019 and 2019 elections with the PSOE list, headed by José Juan Cruz Saavedra.

Socialist councilor Ismael Cruz has stated on social media: "Friend, we are the future. Today the heart of the socialist family of Tías mourns the loss." In addition, he continued pointing out that Toño was "a soulmate, always selflessly dedicated, with infinite generosity and a joy that spread in every act, in every party, in every meeting."

In addition, Ismael Cruz has indicated that "Toño was all heart. You taught us that commitment and true friendship have no limits. Today, although it hurts, we look forward as you told us: because we are the future, and you will always live in it."

The councilor of the Popular Party in the Tías City Council Ayoze Pérez García has also shown his sadness on Facebook: "although you are no longer physically here, your memories live in our hearts."
