Between 25,000 and 30,000 tourists are still in Lanzarote, as confirmed by the Minister of Tourism of the Cabildo, Ángel Vázquez. In addition, despite the declaration of a state of alarm throughout the country to stop the spread of the coronavirus, Ryanair has continued to bring passengers to the island.

"Some companies don't seem to have taken notice," Vázquez criticized. And it is that, from the SPEL they have been able to know that during the weekend Ryanair flights arrived with travelers from the United Kingdom and that this Monday the same thing happened with a flight from the Irish company from Seville, although they do not know the number of passengers who could come and how many would be from Lanzarote and how many tourists.

Meanwhile, according to the Minister of Tourism, some 10,000 tourists left Lanzarote over the weekend, through the repatriation programs launched by different airlines, which sent empty planes to pick up travelers. "We hope that everyone will have left by Thursday," said Ángel Vázquez, who explained that the SPEL has contacted airlines and tourism offices in various countries "so that they comply with the decree of the state of alarm." turistas coronavirus puerto del carmen

Regarding Ryanair, the Minister of Tourism has pointed out that it has not been possible to contact them, but he affirms that it has been done with the Spanish Tourism Office in Dublin. "Because now what matters is health," said Ángel Vázquez, who hopes that tourists will stop arriving in Lanzarote.

Tourists on the street despite the state of alarm

In addition, despite the prohibition of going out on the street in Spain except to go to the doctor, to work, to buy or to care for dependent people, this Sunday there were many tourists who could be seen walking through the tourist areas, especially through Puerto del Carmen and Playa Blanca, and even on the beach.

Likewise, CCOO has denounced this Monday "most of the hotels have their bars, cafeterias or swimming pools open", allowing "guests to continue carrying out leisure and recreational activities within their facilities". A situation in the face of which they have asked for "responsibility" from companies, given that they are "exposing workers to possible infections".
