The president of the Lanzarote Business Confederation, Beatriz Salazar, explained that, to date, 50% of the initiatives received through the complaint mailbox of the Plan against the Underground Economy have been regularized, launched thanks to the support of the Island Council.
She stressed that 16 of the 32 initiatives carried out through this anonymous mailbox have been channeled so far, thanks to the work of accompaniment and advice provided by this service.
This achievement is part of the Action Plan against the Underground Economy, a pioneering initiative that aims to raise awareness, advise and help all those people and companies that carry out their activity outside the law, offering them guidance and support to emerge and adapt to current regulations.
These figures consolidate the project as a useful and close tool, allowing to effectively channel irregular situations and turn them into opportunities for improvement and formalization for the island's productive fabric.
All the services of the Legalization Advisory Point are offered completely free of charge, with a focus on collaboration, shared responsibility and the promotion of a more transparent, fair and competitive economy.
The CEL insists that "the underground economy not only generates unfair competition, but also weakens the tax collection capacity of public administrations and puts at risk the safety and rights of both consumers and workers." In addition, it warns that almost a third of the economic activity in the Canary Islands is currently carried out outside administrative control, which makes it even more urgent to continue working on this type of action.
The possibility of communicating irregularities through the web portal has allowed to make visible many hidden situations and launch an agile and effective legalization process. The CEL encourages to continue using this channel responsibly, contributing together to build a more solid and equitable economy on the island of Lanzarote.
