Alicia Martín has decided to leave the presidency of the Lanzarote Red Cross for work reasons. This was announced by herself on Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero, where she explained that she found it "very difficult" to reconcile her work as a lawyer with her position of responsibility in the NGO.

"Unfortunately I have made this decision, but I will continue as a volunteer supporting my colleagues", said Martín, who preferred to step aside to "focus" on her profession as a lawyer. "The presidency of the Red Cross takes quite a lot of time, there are many projects, one has one's profession, and one has to focus on that", said Martín, who will nevertheless continue to "lend a hand" in the NGO.

Alicia Martín was elected in August 2015 as the new president of the Red Cross in Lanzarote, replacing Rafael Hernández in the post. Although it is not yet known who will replace her at the head of the NGO, Martín has stressed that in the Red Cross "there are very valid colleagues who will carry it out perfectly".
